SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The postseason honors continue for
Samantha Gutierrez after being recognized to Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) 2024 South-Central All-Region Second Team, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon. Just a few days prior, Gutierrez earned All-Region Second team honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Greyhound catcher is the first to win the honor in the head coaching era of
Amanda Fefel.
The junior played in all 52 games for the Greyhounds, helping the team reach the LSC Quarterfinals posting a team best .379 batting average, .699 slugging percentage, and 17 doubles. The San Deigo, Calif. native provided 58 hits (2
nd on team), 10 home runs (3
rd on team), and 45 RBIs (3
rd on team). Defensively, the Greyhound catcher caught 18 runners stealing (leading the LSC) while holding the .673 stolen base allowed percentage (lowest in conference among catcher).
In the Lone Star Conference, Gutierrez stands in the top-10 in several categories: batting average (7
th), slugging percentage (4
th), hits (10
th), RBIs (10
th), doubles (5
th), and home runs (9
th). In terms of ENMU record books, Gutierrez' season stands out in several categories. Their 17 doubles are tied for second most in a single season, only trailing the program record 19 doubles from Rachel Mohler in 2000. Additionally, the 2024 season for Gutierrez ranks in the top-10 in single season history for slugging percentage (8
th), home runs (T-10
th), and RBIs (10
th). Throwing out 18 runners on the bases is tied 3
rd most all-time in a single season.
Honorees are chosen by sports information directors in the Lone Star Conference and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
