Three Greyhounds will compete at 2024 NCAA DII outdoor track and field championships

Eastern New Mexico will be represented by Grizell Scarlett, TImothy Frederick, and Alex Williams at national championships

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University will send three student-athletes to the 2024 NCAA DII outdoor track and field championships in Emporia, Kansas. The meet will run from May 23-25.

The women's 100m will run at 5:25 p.m. MT on May 23. Representing ENMU in the event will be Grizell Scarlett.

The freshman is coming off a victory in the 2024 Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field championships where she bested the meet record time with a wind aided 11.33s (2.1) sprint. This will be her second appearance at a national championship. She took ninth and became a 2024 NCAA DII indoor all-american after running the 60m in 7.46s.

"I'm so excited about qualifying for another national championship," said Scarlett when she heard the news. "It is amazing to see my hard work and dedication paying off."

One of the benefits for Scarlett is that this is the outdoor championship. Prior to this season, Scarlett had little experience with indoor track and field as her primary focus has been outdoor track and field.

The men's 200m will take place at 4:30 p.m. MT on May 24. Timothy Frederick will look to earn another all-american nod as he competes in the short sprint.

Frederick comes into the competition with the eleventh fastest 200m time this season. His 20.72s sprint came at the Willie Williams Classic in Arizona.

"I feel blessed qualifying for another national championship," said Frederick on earning a bid to compete. "God is good."

The second year Greyhound has competed at two indoor national championships and this will be his second outdoor national championship. Last year, he took 18th with a time of 47.82s in the 400m.

ENMU's last competitor at the championships will take center stage May 25 in the javelin set to begin at 9:30 a.m. MT. Alex Williams will be going to back-to-back outdoor track and field championships as he comes in with a personal best 66.90m (219-6) throw. His PR came at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla.

"It feels awesome seeing all the hard work that I've put in paying off," said Williams on the chance to compete in Emporia. "I would like to thank God for guiding me along the way. I want to say thanks to my teammates and coaches for wonderful support."

Williams took 17th at the NCAA's last season where he threw the javelin 60.14m (197-4).

If Scarlett makes the finals, they will run at 2:35 p.m. MT May 25. If Frederick makes the finals, he will run at 3:40 p.m. MT May 25.
