Twelve track and field student-athletes earn all-conference recognition

Kennedy Ulmer and Grizell Scarlett earn first team honors from Lone Star Conference

PORTALES, N.M. – Twelve Eastern New Mexico University student-athletes have been recognized to the all-LSC team.

Seven come from ENMU women's track and field.

The first team honorees include Kennedy Ulmer and Grizell Scarlett. Ulmer won the javelin throw at the conference championships in San Angelo, Texas. Her 42.65m (139-11) throw earned her a gold medal and a trip to the podium for the first time in the event. The sophomore from Rio Rancho, N.M. finished second in the discus with a throw of 47.09m (154-6) and tenth in the shot put

"This year has truly been a blessing and I'm grateful for all the support that I received throughout the season," said Ulmer on the first team recognition. "Having people in my corner at all times is all the motivation I need. Go Greyhounds!!"

Scarlett is now a back-to-back conference champion. The freshman won the 60m earlier this spring and is coming off a win in the 100m where she set a wind aided 11.33s meet record. She managed to take fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.02s and helped the Hounds earn a podium finish in the 4x100 with a season best time of 46.47s.

"Being named a first team all-conference honoree means a lot to me," said Scarlett on the news. "All my hard work, sacrifice, and countless hours I dedicated to improving my skills and performance has been noticeable. It is incredibly special to be recognized among the best athletes in our conference. More importantly, it motivates me to keep pushing."

Two members of the women's team were recognized to the second team. Tamia Smith earns the honor after taking second in the shot put with a throw of 14.24m (46-8.75). She also took fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.08m (151-2). Jodian Stewart made the second team after earning a runner-up finish in the long jump with a 5.98m (19-7.5) leap. She also was a member of the 4x100 team that took third place at the championships.

Three Hounds earned third team honors. Freshman Deziree Bosquez earned third team honors after throwing 39.28m (129-10) to take third in the javelin. Her personal best throw came on her fourth attempt of the day after sitting seventh prior to the throw. Helena Carboo-Klutsey and Riley Midgett were recognized as members of the third team after earning bronze with the 4x100 team. Both participated on the ninth place team in the 4x400 finishing in 4:00.52. Carboo-Klutsey took 21st in the 400m with a 59.05s time and Midgett placed 10th in the 100m with a finish of 12.47s and 15th in the 200m at 25.71s.

On the men's side, five Greyhounds earned all-LSC distinction.

Second team honorees include Hemon Joseph, Jamoi Jackson, and Alex Williams.

Joseph scored in all four events he participated in at the 2024 LSC outdoor track and field championships. He took sixth in the decathlon with 4016 points. The first year Greyhound was part of the 4x100 team to take eighth with a 43.18s finish. He was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.89m (22-7.25) and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 59.39m (194-10).

Jackson earned second team recognition as he finished second in the 400m with a personal best 47.29s. He came 0.17s shy of a first place result.

Williams took second in the javelin after tossing 66.42m (217-11) in the finals. He will represent ENMU during next week's NCAA DII outdoor track and field championships.

Earning third team honors was Luis Holguin and Timothy Frederick. Holguin's personal best clearance of 4.41m (14-5.5) earned him a trip to the podium at the conference championships as he took third place. Frederick was a member of the eighth place 4x100 team. He also finished third in the 200m after crossing the line in 21.53s.
