RICHARDSON, Texas – For the second consecutive season, Eastern New Mexico volleyball has been selected 14th in the LSC Volleyball Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning. The preseason poll is voted upon by coaches and representatives across the league.
Reigning LSC and Tournament Champions, West Texas A&M, were selected to finish in first place with 674 total points and 23 first-place votes. The Lady Buffs narrowly beat DBU, who placed second with 665 total points and 15 first place votes. Angelo State followed in third place with 610 points and two first place votes, while Texas A&M-Kingsville finished with 562 points to land in fourth place, and UT Tyler concluded the top five with 536 total points.
In addition to the preseason poll, the conference announced its preseason players of the year awards. Delaney Fuller of DBU was named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Tatum Stow of West Texas A&M was picked as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, while Texas A&M International's Emma Lade was picked as the Preseason Setter of the Year.
Eastern feature 10 new student-athletes as part of the 2024 roster, with five true freshman and five college transfers.
Darcy Dodd and
Halle Sanders both played significant roles in the 2023 season and are back for their senior campaigns. In addition to preseason players of the year, the Lone Star Conference announced the LSC Volleyball Players to Watch, with
Sophia Valdez (Offensive),
Nickilah Whatley (Defensive), and
Abigayle Falefia (Setter) all being recognized.
Head coach
Sia Poyer leads the Greyhounds in his 11
th season with the program, following a 10-20 season the year prior. This season, ENMU will have 11 games at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena, including hosting the LSC Challenge which will feature six games over three days, with ENMU playing three contests in that time.
The Greyhounds begin their season in Pueblo, Colo. at the Steel City Showcase. Eastern starts the season against Minnesota-Crookston, Sept. 6, at 8 a.m., followed by an afternoon matchup with Lake Superior State, Sept. 6, at 12:30 p.m. The following day, ENMU face-off against Cal State-East Bay at 10:30 a.m., Sept. 7, and conclude the opening weekend against Colorado State-Pueblo at 2:30 p.m., Sept. 7.
