Mo Austin named Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week

Sophomore guard earns LSC weekly accolade after an impressive weekend in Salt Lake City

RICHARDSON, Texas – Mo Austin is the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week after a pair of games where he helped the Greyhounds earn two crucial nonconference wins to close out the year.

"I wanted to be more of a threat and go out and be aggressive," reflected Austin when asked about his ability to step up this weekend and make plays on both sides of the floor. "Credit goes to my teammates."

This is Austin's first conference player of the week recognition and the first time a Greyhound has earned offensive player of the week since Greg Johnson did so in the 2023-24 season.

The accolade comes after Eastern New Mexico snagged their tenth-straight win, which is the largest streak dating back to the 1992-93 campaign. Austin and the Hounds earned wins over Western Oregon (81-79) and Westminster (81-71).

Against the Wolves, the Pueblo, Colo. native posted his first collegiate double-double behind 20 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and eight assists. He also added a pair of steals.

In the second matchup, Austin had another 20-point contest. He also added four rebounds, four steals, and three assists. He was an elite-level facilitator with the ability to find his teammates at will throughout both contests.

"Proud of him," expressed head coach Daven Võ when asked about the guard. "He is a team-first player who does everything he can for the team to win."

Austin leads the Lone Star Conference with 4.7 assists per contest. He is second in the LSC with an impressive 2.7 assist/turnover ratio. He is also fifth with 2.9 steals per affair.

Eastern New Mexico will be back in action on January 2 as they take on Sul Ross State in Alpine to continue league play.
