Eastern head to San Antonio for their first LSC road trip of the season

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Softball takes its first conference road trip this weekend, facing St. Mary's in San Antonio on Sunday, February 23. The LSC doubleheader is expected to begin at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. (MST).

TUNE IN

  • The LSC doubleheader will be broadcast on FloCollege. SERIES INSIGHT

  • Eastern New Mexico and St. Mary's will play each other for the 29th and 30th time in series history, as the Rattlers hold a 19-9 all-time advantage.
  • The two teams have been back and forth in the last ten games, with StMU winning six of the ten games. Of the last seven meetings, only one game has been decided by more than four runs, while a pair of games went to extra innings.
  • In last season's three game series, Eastern took the opening game against the Rattlers, but St. Mary's claimed the final two contests to win the series 2-1 in Portales.
  • During the last series in San Antonio, the two teams played out three very close games. Eastern won the series opener in 10 innings, 3-2, with two runs in the 10th inning pushing ENMU over the finish line in three and a half hours. ENMU secured the series win with a 5-3 win in the next game, scoring five runs in the final inning. In the series finale, St. Mary's took the final game, 3-2, winning in nine innings.
  • The teams first faced each in 2000, with the Rattlers taking a 6-3 win in Portales (2/26/2000).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico have won their last three games in LSC play, including a home sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville. On the season, the Greyhounds stand at 10-4, with a 3-1 standing in conference play.
  • Eastern New Mexico's offense has stood out the opening three weeks of the season, leading the nation in home runs, while scoring 8.29 runs per seven innings (17th in nation, 4th in LSC). ENMU has a .354 batting average, scoring 116 runs from 141 hits, with 104 RBIs. In the circle, ENMU is posting a 4.00 ERA, giving up 66 runs from 52 hits with 84 strikeouts.
  • Aylene Lucero leads the potent Greyhounds lineup, leading the nation in hits (26), RBIs (25), runs (23), total bases (49), while having a team best .565 batting average. Valeria Contreras is also up in the national highs, holding 24 hits, 20 RBIs, with a .490 batting average. The trio of Contreras, Lucero, and Alondra Vasquez have five home runs each, while Christina Meneses is just behind with three home runs.
  • Miranda Guillen and Jordan Rivera each started two games for the Greyhounds last weekend, with Rivera tossing a complete game to end the weekend. Guillen leads the team with a 2.49 ERA, and Rivera has a team high 38 strikeouts. Guillen, Rivera, and Marissa Rodriguez each have three wins for the Greyhounds this season.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS

  • At the time of writing, St. Mary's holds a 7-8 overall record with a 2-2 conference record. The Rattlers won their opening LSC doubleheader against Midwestern State, before falling in a pair of games to #13 West Texas A&M. St. Mary's will face Western New Mexico on Saturday afternoon before playing the Greyhounds on Sunday.
  • In their first 15 games, StMU has scored 85 runs from 133 hits, producing a team batting average of .313. For extra base hits, the Rattlers have 16 doubles, five triples, and seven home runs, with 81 RBIs. St. Mary's have a 4.89 ERA over 96.0 innings, allowing 73 runs on 128 hits. The StMU pitching staff has recorded 42 strikeouts, holding opposing hitters to a .307 batting average.
  • Abigail Dela Rosa has collected a team best 22 hits, 21 runs, .431 batting average, and four triples. Gabriela Banda has brought home 17 RBIs in 2025, with Raegan Tennill (.370 BA, 16 RBI) sitting in second for batting average and RBIs. Emily Ayala has produced 11 RBIs with a team high three home runs in just 25 at bats.
  • Ariella Saenz has earned a team high nine starts for St. Mary's in the circle, tossing 24.2 innings with a team best 14 strikeouts. Madeline Bloom leads the team with 25.1 innings pitched and a pair of complete games, holding a team best 1.66 ERA and a 4-1 record. Jadyn Abrego has made six starts for StMU, but Emily Ayala has a team low opponent batting average (.235) in 17.0 innings.
