PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Softball begins play against West Division opponents this weekend, facing Lubbock Christian on Saturday, March 15, afternoon in Lubbock. First pitch of the opening game is set for 12 p.m. (MST), while game two will start at 2 p.m. (MST).

SERIES INSIGHT
- Eastern New Mexico won their first ever game against the Chaps in 2024, with Lubbock Christian dominating the all-time series, 44-1. In that time, LCU is 9-1 against the Greyhounds in conference play.
- Eastern's lone victory came in dramatic fashion, winning in a walk-off home run in the 8th inning (4-3, 2/27/24). Both teams traded the lead back and forth, as Lubbock Christian tied the game at 3-3 with two outs in the 7th. With one out in the bottom of the 8th, Taighen Whitzel took the first pitch they saw over the left center field fence to give ENMU the late victory.Â
- Lubbock Christian has a perfect home record against ENMU (21-0), with ENMU falling by as little as of one run on a few occasions. In the last series in Lubbock, the Greyhounds fell 6-1, 3-2, and 5-0.
- Before the win last February, Lubbock Christian had won the first 42 games in a row against ENMU.
- The teams first played each other in 2010, with LCU winning a four-game series over two days (2/12-13/10).
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
- After a sweep of Texas Woman's, Eastern New Mexico hold a 16-10 overall record, along with a 9-7 conference record. In the Greyhounds pair of wins, ENMU outscored TWU 12-1, with the one allowed run being unearned.
- Offensively, Eastern have a .307 batting average, scoring 170 runs from 221 hits. The Greyhounds are batting .308 this season, scoring 158 runs this season from 205 hits. ENMU has provided 43 doubles, six triples, and 25 home runs. In the circle, ENMU sports a 3.92 ERA, striking out 142 hitters with 123 runs allowed, on 172 hits.
- Individually, Aylene Lucero paces the team with .477 batting average, while also leading the team in runs scored (32), hits (38), and walks (15). Valeria Contreras sits at .388 batting average on the season, driving in 25 runs with 33 hits. Alondra Vasquez leads the team in both RBIs (28) and home runs (7).
- Miranda Guillen comes into the weekend after being named LSC Pitcher of the Week, leading the team with a 3.22 ERA this season and 59 strikeouts over 50.0 innings. Guillen and Marissa Rodriguez both have five wins in the circle this season, while Jordan Rivera also has been a big contributor with 51.0 innings thrown this season.
SCOUTING THE CHAPARRALS
- Lubbock Christian come into the weekend with a 17-9 record, holding an 8-8 LSC standing. The Chaps were in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) earlier in the season, reaching as high as 22nd, but have dropped out in recent weeks. LCU split with St. Mary's in their last two games series, winning the opening game 3-2, then falling 3-1.
- The Chaps hold a .312 batting average at this point in the season, scoring 162 runs with 210 hits. For extra base hits, Lubbock Christian has 41 doubles, six triples, and 18 home runs. LCU has stolen 33 bases on the season, drawing 84 walks. As a team, Lubbock Christian sports a 3.44 ERA, holding opponents to a .261 batting average. LCU has given up 93 runs with 133 strikeouts.
- In the batter's box, Baylea Myers leads the team with a .423 batting average, providing 33 hits and 22 RBIs. Kadin Vire has 30 hits on the season, while stealing a team high 10 stolen bases this season. Yaya Kaaialii and Kendra Levesque are the joint leaders on the team in doubles with seven, while Levesque leads the team with four home runs.
- Teoni Lamb and Emily Dix are the primary starters for the Lady Chaps, both throwing over 40 innings this season. Lamb powers the team with a a team high 47 strikeouts, while Natalee Gray and Dix each have four wins on the season. Gray has a 2.36 ERA and a .243 opposing batting average in 26.2 innings this season. Kendall Ward plays a key role from the bullpen, recording three saves in nine relief appearances this season.
