ENMU plays the Lobos for the first time in over two decades on Friday afternoon

PORTALES, N.M. – After spending the last two weekends on the road, Eastern New Mexico Softball returns home to play their first West Division games at Greyhound Softball Field. Eastern plays Sul Ross State in a doubleheader, as the two teams meet for the first time on Friday, March 21, at 2 and 4 p.m.

TUNE IN

  • The LSC doubleheader will be broadcast on FloCollege. FloCollege is the central location to watch Lone Star Conference live and on-demand events, offering a $14.99 per month pass or $99.99 per year pass. SERIES INSIGHT

  • Eastern and Sul Ross State face each other for the first time as conference opponents, playing each once prior with ENMU holding a 1-0 all-time series advantage.
  • The teams first ever played in 2000, with the Greyhounds winning 20-0 in a game the was just three innings in Portales (2/25/00). Eastern's Suzy Seitzinger threw a no-hitter, allowing one walk with two outs in the top of the 3rd inning. ENMU outhit the Lobos (10-0), as ENMU scored 15 runs in the first inning.
  • Sul Ross State joined the Lone Star Conference for the 2024-25 season and are in the reclassification period from DIII to DII.
  • The two teams will meet each other in Alpine towards the end of the season, marking the Greyhounds first ever trip to Alpine.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern enter the weekend looking to get their first wins in West Division play, while looking to snap a four-game losing skid. ENMU is 16-14 on the season, while holding a 9-11 conference record. In their last LSC doubleheader, the Greyhounds fell twice against #4 Angelo State, falling 10-1 (5 Inn.) and 3-2, losing on a walkoff.
  • The Greyhounds are hitting .302 on the season, scoring 186 runs with 250 hits. Eastern have gathered 164 RBIs, while hitting 49 doubles, six triples, and 27 home runs. In the circle, ENMU has 4.47 ERA, allowing 152 runs from 209 hits. Opposing hitters are hitting .275 against the Greyhounds, with the ENMU pitching staff striking out 155 batters with 33 walks.
  • Leading the bats for Eastern New Mexico, Aylene Lucero has .414 batting average, with a team high 41 hits, 33 runs scored, and 15 walks. Christina Meneses has a team high of 11 doubles this season, sitting in 2nd in the LSC for doubles, while Alondra Vasquez has a team high 29 RBIs and eight home runs.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS

  • Sul Ross State returns to Portales for the first time since 2000, holding a 6-23 record and a 3-17 LSC standing this season. In their last game, the Lobos took the series finale against Midwestern State, 2-1. In the game prior to the Mustangs, MSU won the contest 12-3 (5 Inn.).
  • As a team, Sul Ross State are hitting .227 on the season, driving in 47 runs, with 63 total runs scored. The Lobos have 145 hits this season, stealing 34 bases this year. In the circle, SRSU sport a 9.98 ERA, striking out 42 hitters over 165.0 innings. Opposing hitters are batting .377, allowing 56 doubles and 23 home runs.
