PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Softball travels to Canyon, Texas facing the number one team in the nation, West Texas A&M, on Sunday, April 13, afternoon. The games are set to commence at 12 p.m. (MST) / 1 p.m. (CST) and 2 p.m. (MST) / 3 p.m. (CST).

SERIES INSIGHT
- Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M have met over 60 times, with the Lady Buffs holding a 52-17 all-time record. In conference play, ENMU is 6-46 against WT.
- In the first doubleheader this season, West Texas A&M took a sweep of the series in two games in Portales. In the first game, both teams were close over the first five innings, but six runs in the final two innings lifted the Lady Buffs past ENMU 7-2. In game two, West Texas A&M used the long ball early to get ahead, winning the game 14-1 (5 Inn.).
- West Texas A&M has now won 10 straight games against the Greyhounds, dating back to 4/30/22.
- The last time ENMU won in Canyon against the Lady Buffs came back in 2007, with ENMU winning 8-7 in the series finale, completing a 3-1 series win.
- Both teams first played each other in a neutral site, with ENMU winning 4-1 with the game being played in San Angelo, Texas (2/4/06).
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
- Eastern New Mexico has a 26-18 overall record this season, with a conference standing of 19-15. ENMU comes off a pair of big road wins against Midwestern State, winning the first game 9-1 (6 Inn.), then beating the Mustangs in extra innings in game two (5-3, 9 Inn.).
- The Eastern bats this season have a .311 batting average, putting up 271 runs, registering 375 hits. The Greyhounds have collected 72 doubles, while hitting 10 triples and 37 home runs. In the circle, ENMU has a 4.42 ERA, striking out 246 batters, giving up 222 runs and 309 hits.
- Leading the Greyhounds in batting average, Aylene Lucero has a .434 batting average, while leading the team with 63 hits and 51 runs scored, contributing 36 RBIs. Alondra Vasquez supplies a .389 batting average on the season, leading the team with 27 walks, 10 home runs, and 41 RBIs. Christina Meneses (.366 BA, 16 2B) and Valeria Contreras (.348 BA, 40 R) have been constant figures in the top of the Greyhounds lineup.
- Of the Greyhounds' last six wins, Miranda Guillen has been the winning pitcher in each game, standing at 13-5 on the season in 25 appearances and 19 starts. The freshman leads the team with a 2.59 ERA, along with a team high in strikeouts (127), while opposing batters are hitting just .198. Cierra Smith earned a start in the circle in the most recent doubleheader, pitching 31.0 innings this season. Jordan Rivera also is an important arm for ENMU, pitching 68.0 innings this season with a 6-3 record.
SCOUTING THE #1 LADY BUFFS
- West Texas A&M are the #1 team in the nation based on the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, riding a 22-game winning streak. WT has a record of 42-2 on the season, with a conference record of 32-2, and haven't dropped a West Division game yet this season (18-0).
- The Lady Buffs are the top hitting team in the nation by batting average, batting .383 as a team, scoring 9.19 runs per game (leads nation), with a 0.666 slugging percentage (leads nation). For totals, WT has 475 hits, scoring 402 runs, while being 2nd in DII for home runs (67), and 3rd in the nation for doubles (82). The teams pitching is also among the elite in the nation with a 1.91 ERA (11th in DII), giving up 234 hits and 98 runs.
- Emilee Boyer is a conference player of the year candidate with their ability for hitting and pitching. The junior has a .500 batting average with 17 home runs and 73 RBIs (leads all divisions in RBIs). In the circle, Boyer has a record of 22-1, with a 1.75 ERA in eight complete games and six total shutouts.
- All nine regular starters in the batting lineup have a batting average above .300, including three batters hitting over .400. Lauren Granger leads the team in hits with 67, with 13 doubles and 14 home runs. Abby Howell is second on the team for RBIs with 49, while Kiley Avery leads the team in runs scored with 50. Heidi Vortherms is next best for wins in the circle, with 12 victories along with a 2.02 ERA.
