ENMU opens LSC Tournament with matchup against (3) #7 Angelo State

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Softball kickoff the 2025 Lone Star Conference Tournament on Thursday, May 1, facing (3) #7 Angelo State at 11 a.m. at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.

  • The LSC Softball Tournament will be broadcast on FloCollege. FloCollege is the central location to watch Lone Star Conference live and on-demand events, offering a $14.99 per month pass or $99.99 per year pass.   • The Greyhounds travel to West Texas A&M, the host institution, to compete in the 2025 LSC Tournament. Tickets are available as single-session passes. SERIES INSIGHT

  • Eastern and Angelo State will play each other for the first time in the Lone Star Conference Tournament, while the Rambelles hold a 68-11 record against the Greyhounds in the all-time series.
  • Of the 79 total meetings between the program, only two of those games have been at a neutral site. The teams played in Irving, Texas on 3/6/04, with the Rambelles winning 7-1, then the teams met in Wichita Falls, Texas on 3/13/14, with ASU taking the game 7-1.
  • In the regular season meetings, Angelo State went 4-0. The Rambelles took both games at home, 10-1 (5 Inn.) and 3-2. In the return home doubleheader in Portales, ASU took a 10-3 and 12-9 victory.

SCOUTING THE (6) GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern New Mexico ended the regular season with a 30-24 record, along with a 23-21 conference standing, earning the 6th seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament. The Greyhounds enter the tournament on a four-game winning streak, winning road doubleheaders against UT Permian Basin and Sul Ross State.
  • The Greyhounds are batting .314 as a team, having scored 335 runs from 465 hits this season. Eastern have registered 89 doubles, hitting 12 triples, with 49 home runs. ENMU's pitching staff holds a 4.77 ERA, holding opposing hitters to a .282 batting average and striking out 272 batters.
  • Aylene Lucero leads the team in batting average, hitting .421 this season, leading the team in hits (75) and runs scored (61). Alondra Vasquez eclipsed 60 hits for the year over the weekend, leading the Greyhounds with 11 home runs, 49 RBIs, and 35 walks. Christina Meneses and Valeria Contreras both are key bats in the Greyhounds lineup, with Meneses leading ENMU for doubles with 17, while Contreras has 59 hits and 54 runs scored.
  • Miranda Guillen leads the ENMU pitching staff with a 3.20 ERA, holding a record of 15-5 and 131 strikeouts. Marissa Rodriguez and Jordan Rivera have six and seven wins in the circle, respectively.

SCOUTING THE (3) #7 ANGELO STATE

  • Angelo State finished the regular season in third place in the LSC holding a 43-11 overall record, and 34-10 conference record. ASU garner's a #7 ranking from the NFCA (national fastpitch coaches association). The Rambelles split their final two home doubleheaders of the season, including beating #1 West Texas A&M, 7-0.
  • The Rambelles boast a .316 batting average this season, scoring 346 runs on 430 hits. Angelo State produced 81 doubles, 23 triples, and 48 home runs. In the circle, ASU have a 2.47 ERA, giving up 144 runs over 348.1 innings, holding opponents to a .238 batting average.
  • Laylonna Applin leads the team with a .446 batting average, posting 74 hits, 18 doubles, seven triples, 14 home runs, and 64 RBIs (leads team in all categories). Ashton McMillian and Averie Gunther have a batting average above .350 this season, while Erin Plunkett and Tatiana Trotter both have made major contributions to the offense.
