RICHARDSON, Texas – The Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week is Eastern New Mexico forward
Jose Murillo. He helped the Greyhounds earn a pair of road wins over Midwestern State and No. 5 Lubbock Christian.
"Happy to get on a winning streak again," reflected
Jose Murillo when asked about the two wins. "Credit to the coaches and my teammates. We can't do it without their efforts."
Murillo remained the Lone Star leader in field goal percentage (.637) in a week that saw him score 20.5 points per contest. In a 24-point win over Midwestern State, he scored 18 points on just 8-of-10 shooting. He also added eight rebounds, three blocks, a steal, and an assist.
The Greyhounds shot well as a team going 34-of-68 (50%) from the floor. Four players scored in double figures and the Hounds had an excellent outing with 58 points in the paint, 29 fastbreak points, 28 bench points, and 25 points off turnovers.
In the win over No. 5 LCU, Murillo was the main concern for the Chaps. They consistently double teamed the Chihuahua, Mexico native and tried to limit his paint touches. However, he closed out the matchup going 10-of-15 for 23 points. He also posted his ninth double-double of the season by grabbing 13 rebounds. Murillo was an important reason why the program scored 50 points in the paint and held the lead throughout the entire second half.
"Jose was very efficient because he was aggressive," said head coach Daven Võ when reflecting on Murillo's play this weekend. "Our guys did a great job finding him over and over and giving him opportunities to help us win."
Jose Murillo leads the Lone Star Conference in blocks (26), offensive rebounds (3.73), and field goal percentage (63.4%). Murillo and the Greyhounds will now look towards a rivalry matchup on Thursday night at Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena. Tickets are available.
