PORTALES, N.M. – For a second consecutive time, Eastern New Mexico men's basketball is included in the top 25 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) polls. This week, ENMU sits at No. 19.
"The guys are working hard," said head coach Daven Võ when asked about his program being ranked in the top 20. "This happens when you have good leadership and guys are returning to teams."
This marks the third time in program history that Eastern has been listed at No. 19 in the country. The last time the Greyhounds were ranked in the top 20 came on Jan. 7, 1996. This is the 12th time the program has broken into the top 20.
Five teams from the Lone Star Conference are included in the top 25. No. 6 Lubbock Christian, No. 17 St. Edward's, No. 19 Eastern New Mexico, No. 20 West Texas A&M, and No. 23 St. Mary's all represent the conference in the rankings.
Both SEU and StMU will come to Steve Loy Family Foundation Arena this week to face the Greyhounds.
First, the Rattlers will battle the Hounds on Thursday night with tip set for 7:30 p.m. St. Mary's split games last week with a win over Midwestern State and a loss to Lubbock Christian. StMU ranks in the top 30 nationally in scoring defense allowing just 65.3 points per contest.
On Saturday, Eastern will face St. Edward's for a 3 p.m. first tip. SEU's week was quite similar to StMU's as they also split their contests. LCU had a 17-point win over the Hilltoppers and St. Edward's earned a 22-point victory over MSU. The Austin, Texas based institution sits in the top 15 nationally committing just 10.5 turnovers per outing.
