PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico softball plays their home opener this weekend with a doubleheader against conference foe West Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 14. at Greyhound Softball Field. Saturday will also mark the beginning of conference play with first pitch set for 1 p.m. and the second game starting 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first contest.

ENMU holds an overall record of 4-3 after finishing last weekend's tournament with two wins against Black Hills State (9-1) and Fort Lewis College (12-3) and two losses against No. 11 Central Oklahoma (6-5) and Oklahoma Baptist (13-8). Christina Meneses leads the Greyhounds with a .526 batting average going 10-for-19, with 17 total bases and a .600 on-base percentage. Alexa Ayala is hitting .375 with eight RBI's and 10 total bases. Miranda Guillen leads the team with a 2-0 record in the circle and has posted 19 innings, 21 strikeouts, and is limiting opponents to a .276 batting average.

WT is currently 10-2 riding a three-game winning streak. They played in a tournament last weekend in Tennessee and went 4-2 over six games. Jordyn De Los Santos carries the Lady Buffs with a .579 batting average and 15 RBI's. Pitcher Laci Peskey leads her team with a 4-0 record, and 23 strikeouts over 23.2 total innings. Peskey was also named pitcher-to-watch in the preseason Lone Star Conference watchlist.

The Hounds and the Lady Buffs have met every year since 2006. They have played 71 total games with West Texas A&M up 54-17. The last matchup between the teams was in April of 2025 and resulted in a 12-4 loss for the Greyhounds. The last victory for the Hounds against the Lady Buffs was in April of 2022 with a 3-2 result. The first ever matchup in 2004 between the teams ended with a 4-1 win for the Hounds.
