First-Ever Trip to Espanola for Greyhound Hoops

PORTALES, N.M. — For the first time in school history the Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team will travel to Española, New Mexico to take on Northern New Mexico College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Eagle Gym.
 
The Greyhounds go into the game 4-4 on the season after dropping their home opener earlier in the week while the Eagles, losers of four straight and six of their last seven, are 5-6.
 
In the three previous meetings between the programs, Eastern has come out on top in all of them including a 90-66 win last season. Twice the teams have meet in Greyhound Arena while the other contest took place in Durango, Colorado on Nov. 19, 2011.
 
Junior Lawrence Domingo has scored in double-figures in seven games this season to lead the team in scoring at 14.0 ppg. He also has goes into the game pacing the Greyhounds with 5.8 rpg and five total blocks.
 
Second in scoring (12.9) and rebounding (5.4) is junior John Gilliam. Also putting up at least 10 points a contest is senior Michael Randle (11.9) and junior Demetrius Balark (11.3).
 
Dishing out a team-best 2.9 apg is junior Chris Wyms while he is tied with Gilliam with a team leading eight steals this season.
 
As a team, ENMU is averaging 80.6 ppg while making 39.8 percent of their shots, 32.0 percent from beyond the arc and 64.1 percent at the free throw line. They are grabbing 41.6 rpg and are getting 5.1 spg and 1.6 bpg.
 
Leading NNMC offensively is Gabriel Martinez at 15.0 ppg with a 42.7 percent field goal and 49.0 percent three-pointer shooting percentages. Of his 38 made field goals, 25 have been from long range.
 
A freshman from Cairo, Egpyt, Walid Ahmed is second on the team in scoring with 12.9 ppg and is making a team-high 59.6 percent of his shot attempts. William Harvey is contributing 10.7 ppg and has made 35-of-48 at the charity stripe while Eric Garcia is adding 10.2 ppg and 6.1 rpg.
 
Patrick Bendeque is pacing the squad with 6.7 rpg and scoring 7.3 ppg.
 
The Eagles are putting up 83.5 ppg and shooting 45.4 percent from the field including 35.0 percent on three-pointers. They are also making 66.2 percent of their free throws. On the glass, NNMC has a +2.6 rebounding margin and getting 39.1 rpg. Although they commit 18.8 turnovers a game, opponents turn the ball over 2.8 more times.
