Segler Era Begins at ENMU
Head Coach Tres Segler earned his first win as a head coach in the team's 80-77 overtime win over New Mexico Highlands in the season opener. The first-year head coach was named the 13th head coach in school history in April. Most recently, Segler served as the top assistant coach for Midwestern State University where he helped the Mustangs to a 177-48 (.787) record and three times helped guide MSU to a LSC championship. Over the course of his career, the College Station, Texas, native has worked with noted NBA stars, Royal Ivey, PJ Tucker, Daniel Gibson, LaMarcus Aldridge, DJ Augustin, Kevin Durant, Damian James, Dexter Pittman, Avery Bradley and Jordan Hamilton.

The Greyhounds return seven players from last year's 6-20 squad. Javaan Mumtaz, Chris Wyms, Kevin Saiz, Chaunce Hill, Arcaim Lallemand, Lucas Bowens and Trevon Hall are back in the Green and Silver after seeing significant action last year.

Taz-Manian Devil
Senior Javaan Mumtaz returns to the court for Eastern and is the top scoring threat for the 'Hounds. The Auckland, New Zealand, native averaged 10.2 points-per-game last year and recorded a string of six-straight games of scoring 10+ points and three-straight games of 20+ points. In the season opener, Mumtaz banged home a three with just over two minutes to give Eastern a 66-65 lead for three of his bench-leading 14 points.

Leading the Way
Senior Chris Wyms and junior Kevin Saiz are the only players on the roster with multiple years of experience with the Greyhounds. Both players have been with the team since the 2014-15 season, but Wyms was sidelined for much of the season last year due to an injury. Saiz saw significant action a year ago in the senior's absence, making 20 starts.

Hughes Getting Huge
Junior Andre Hughes came up big on the boards in the team's season opening win, pulling down a team-leading nine rebounds. Additionally, the Killeen, Texas, native was tied for second on the team with 12 points in the win.

Straight Outta Compton
Junior Marquise Harris produced 14 points and gave the 'Hounds the lead for good with a three-point dagger in overtime last night. The Watts, Calif., native went 6-of-18 shooting and pulled down five rebounds in 26 minutes.

Say It Aint So Joe
Junior Joe Clarke fired at-will in the season opener, going 5-for-21 from the field and 2-of-6 from beyond the arc. The New Rochelle, New York, native gave the 'Hounds 14 points and four rebounds in the win.

New Faces
Eastern features an abundance of new faces on the 2016-17 squad. Along with the coaching staff, Head Coach Tres Segler brought in 12 new players to fill out his roster. Lamarquis Thompson, Byrale Carter, Chris Lewis, Shawn Shelton, CoRnell Neal, Tanner Davis, Joe Clarke, Marquise Harris, Dennis Woods, Andre Hughes, Isaac Maldonado and Cesar Nava all join the 'Hounds with expectations of greatness. Along with the new players, Segler brought in assistant coach Tyler Wayman from Rogers State.

Lone Star Conference Outlook
Midwestern State topped the 2016-17 Lone Star Conference men's basketball preseason poll as voted on by LSC Head Coaches and SIDs. West Texas A&M's David Chavlovich was named Preseason Player of the Year.
