PORTALES, N.M. – The final conference road trip is here for Eastern New Mexico softball. Before the Greyhounds take the field against Oklahoma Christian, please take a look at the Four Bases:
First Base – Vital Wins: ENMU began the week with an impressive series win over Texas Woman's. A game one (2-1) and game two (4-3) victory for the Hounds clinched the matchup with the Pioneers and breaks the head-to-head tie breaker scenario. Eastern went into the weekend trailing both TWU and Texas A&M International for the tenth spot in the LSC standings. With the series win, the Greyhounds took control of the spot and now control their own destiny for making the conference tournament.
Second Base – Circle Up: Freshman
Marissa Rodriguez and senior
Brook Leger held their own against TWU this week. Rodriguez went 7.0 innings striking out seven batters and letting up three hits and a run. She walked three batters and only threw 106 pitches. Leger controlled the second game of the doubleheader allowing three runs on four hits and two walks. She struckout five batters and tossed 107 pitches in the outing. As a staff, the Greyhounds hold a 3.96 ERA through 318.1 innings of work.
Third Base – Setting Records: Four Eastern New Mexico student-athletes are adding their names to several top-ten lists in the program record books.
Mikenzey Patterson sits in second in steal percentage (.907), tied for third in triples (8), and fourth in steals (39).
Jokaira Paredes finds herself second in sacrifice hits (22) and ninth in assists (243).
Mackenzie Shaw is seventh in total runners caught stealing (22).
Brook Leger is first in strikeouts per seven innings (7.16), second in total strikeouts (361), third in lowest opponent batting percentage (.265), fourth in appearances (88), and fifth in innings pitched (353.0).
Home – The Matchup: Oklahoma Christian leads the overall series against the Hounds, 12-4. ENMU last beat OC on the road in 2018 with a 3-2 result. The Eagles are on a five-game winning streak over Eastern. The Greyhounds hold better numbers statistically in various categories, but they trail in two major numbers. OC carries a higher batting average, .302 - .275, and a better ERA, 2.96 – 3.96. The last meeting between the two programs went in Oklahoma Christian's favor with an 8-1 contest at Greyhound Softball Field.
