4x4 Preview: John Jacobs Invitational

Track and field prepares for 2024 John Jacobs Invitational at the University of Oklahoma

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico University men's and women's track and field will compete at the University of Oklahoma this weekend. Before ENMU heads to Norman, Okla., please take a look at the 4x4 Preview:

1x4: Provisional Marks – Four different Greyhounds earned NCAA DII provisional marks at the Jo Meaker Classic last week. Newcomer Rosean Young posted an impressive 10.41s in the 100m and places himself 24th among all runners in the nation. Senior Timothy Frederick now holds the tenth fastest time among 400m runners. His 47.20s finish at the meet in Canyon, Texas is one of his fastest in an outdoor meet, but did not beat out his 2023 performance in the same meet (Jo Meaker). Freshman Grizell Scarlett bettered her time in the 100m after crossing the line in 11.38s. She is the fifth fastest in the nation. Jodian Stewart now ranks 21st in the long jump after clearing 5.92m (19-5.25). Stewart's jump places her fifth among those in the Lone Star Conference.

2x4: Improvement Every Day – Several Greyhounds hit personal best marks at the meet hosted by West Texas A&M. Luis Holguin cleared 4.40m (14-5.25) in the pole vault. Bryce Owens finished the 800m in 2:02.30 and the 400m in 53.70s. Devin Gallegos threw the javelin 49.83m. Tre Buchanan ran the 400m in 48.19s. Helena Carboo-Klutsey crossed the finish in the 400m at 56.64s. Three Hounds, Ambrosia Francis (25.08s), Malia Sanchez (26.29s), and Savannah Romero (27.85s), finished the 200m with personal bests. Allysun Jones tossed the hammer 30.63m (100-6). Kennedy Ulmer threw the shot put 13.03m (42-9).

3x4: Regional Rankings – The men's team sits thirteenth in the south central rankings. West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Lubbock Christian, and UT Tyler are the schools ahead of ENMU. The women's poll sees Eastern New Mexico in eleventh just behind West Texas A&M, Angelo State, UT Tyler, and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Greyhounds had been out of the poll since 2017, but have now been included for three-straight weeks. The men are supported by Timothy Frederick who ranks first in the 200m and second in the 400m among the region. Alex Williams sits in second in the javelin while his teammate Hemon Joseph is sixth in the same event. Lastly, Rosean Young adds additional support sitting seventh with his 100m time from the past week. The women earn a majority of their points from Grizell Scarlett sitting second in the 100m and Kennedy Ulmer in third in the javelin. Both Jodian Stewart (long jump) and Tamia Smith (shot put) rank sixth in their individual event.

4x4: John Jacobs Invitational – As the team prepares for the multiday event, here is a quick outlook of what to expect. The multis will begin at 10 a.m. CT for the men while the field events for the meet will begin around 3 p.m. CT. The 800m is the only race with a Greyhound participating Friday night and that will get going at 6:45 p.m. CT. Saturday will be a full slate with the multis beginning at 9 a.m. CT. The 4x100 will be the first race at 11 a.m. CT where ENMU is expected to have a relay group. The field events begin with high jump and discus at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday.
