SAN ANGELO, TEXAS — The Eastern New Mexico University baseball team split the doubleheader against Angelo State University Saturday, dropping the first game 3-2 and taking the second 8-3.
In the first contest of the day
James Gray threw six innings, striking out seven batters while only allowing two earned runs.
Dylan Nault and
Chris Sanders both recorded two hits in the game and
Daniel Ward scored the teams only RBI with a double.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Greyhounds (16-30, 11-21 LSC) exploded offensively, recording 16 hits and eight RBIs.
Clyde Kendrick had his second great outing in a row, throwing six innings with 10 strikeouts and only allowing four hits and one run. Kendrick's win moved him to 3-1 overall on the season.
Blake Cooper and Ward led the team, recording three hits and two RBIs each.
Matthew Burks recorded one hit in the game with a solo shot homerun. The homer was his second of the season.
The Greyhounds managed to take one game from a hot Angelo State (34-15, 21-14 LSC), who has been on fire lately winning seven straight games until the Greyhounds won today. Having lost the first two games of the series, ENMU looks like it will be stuck in fifth place in the Lone Star Conference and miss the postseason tournament by two games.
Tarleton State was swept by Texas A&M Kingsville over the weekend, but even if the Greyhounds had swept the Rams as well, it would have gone to a tie breaker to see if ENMU or the Texans made the tournament.
