Softball Faces Lubbock Christian In a Non-Conference Doubleheader

PORTALES, N.M. – After a few schedule changes, Eastern New Mexico softball will play in Lubbock, Texas this weekend against Lubbock Christian University in a double header. First pitch of game one is expected to go at 12 pm (MST), with game two set to be played after.

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern faced difficult competition at the D2 Cactus Classic, as the Hounds finished 1-4 in Tucson, Ariz. The Hounds started the weekend with a 10-2 (6 Inn.) over California University of Pa., but dropped its next four games against Simon Fraser, Azusa Pacific, Colorado Christian, and Colorado Mesa.

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

This season, Eastern New Mexico hold a 7-7 record. Collectively, the Hounds sport a batting average of .267, scoring 77 runs from 92 hits. Eastern have 63 RBI's this season, and have 22 extra base hits. In the circle, the ENMU pitching staff hold an ERA of 5.31, allowing 71 runs from 92 hits. Hounds pitchers lead the conference with 110 strikeouts against opposition batters.
 
Lisette Urquidez holds the best batting average at .452, leading the team with 19 hits, 10 runs scored, and 21 RBI's. Urquidez is fifth in the conference for RBI's, and is 12th in the nation for RBI's. Jokaira Paredes is next in batting average with .387, while Mikenzey Patterson also bats over .300, at .385. In the circle, Brook Leger has had a great start to the season, holding a 2.23 ERA. Leger currently leads all of Division II in strikeouts with 92, and is eighth nationally for strikeouts per seven innings (12.1 K/7). Leger leads the LSC in both those stats.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Lubbock Christian University

LCU enter the weekend at 12-2 on the season and recently went 5-0 in its last tournament. The Chaps have scored 109 runs this season, with 135 hits overall, and a batting average of .350. Lubbock Christian have found 20 home runs this season, which ranks in the top 10 nationally. LCU pitching is allowing just 2.00 runs per seven innings, with 40 runs allowed on 64 hits.

Tyla Lee is the team leader in batting average at .558 and was recently named NFCA Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and LSC Hitter of the Week. Lee is the team leader in hits (24), RBI's (18), and slugging percentage (1.000). Taylor Franco stands out for the Lady Chaps in the circle, having thrown tow no-hitters so far this season. Franco holds an ERA of 1.44 and has 41 strikeouts on the season.
