Lewis was a member of the 1981 women's NIRA national championship team and the southwest regional champion teams in 1980 & 1981. From 1998-2000, she served as the rodeo coach at ENMU. Lewis is a graduate of ENMU with a degree in ELED/SPED (early childhood special education) and a retired teacher of 27 years from Melrose Schools. She has been married to her husband, DR, for 41 years and has 3 children who are also graduates of ENMU.
