Anyone who followed the 2004 ENMU volleyball team’s trip to the NCAA tournament knew it was only a matter of time before Marjorie Houghton joined a group of her former teammates in the Hall of Honors. She was regarded as a fiery leader for ENMU from 2000-2004, and despite dealing with multiple injuries, she was regarded as one of the team’s hardest workers and set virtually every assist record in the program. A 2004 Second Team All-Lone Star Conference selection, Houghton received four Setter of the Week awards, made LSC All-Academic and was on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a senior. Her 5,314 career assists are nearly double the total of her closest competitor. Current head coach Sia Poyer considered her an extremely underrated blocker. As good as Houghton was on the court, she also excelled in the classroom, as she graduated with honors as a public relations major. She dished out 34 assists in ENMU’s five-set NCAA regional win over Mesa State, during the 2004 season. The team also swept West Texas A&M that year.
