Darwin Pauley was a key component in the turnaround of the men's basketball program in the late 1980's. He arrived in Portales for the 1987-88 season and picked up Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and First Team All-LSC accolades. After a four-win first season, Pauley became one of the cornerstones and team captains of a team that would win 50 games over the next three seasons. A four-time All-LSC selection, Pauley is still the eighth-leading scorer in team history, and with 1,444 points, just one of 20 players to reach the millennium mark.
