Charlie Painter was an all-state high school player from Roswell High School and played on the Greyhound football team from 1948-51. As a four-year starter at fullback he was a prolific scorer and ranked as the second all-time leading scorer at the time of his induction. During his reign as scoring king, ENMU was a member of the New Mexico Athletic Conference. Painter was a three-time all-conference selection. His five touchdowns in a game, set in 1951 against Western NM still stands and was not tied until 2000.
