Keith Wattenbarger played for the Greyhounds’ nationally-ranked football team in 1983 and 1984 and stay as a volunteer coach in 1985. In 1983 he was the starting center on the sixth-ranked team in the nation, as ENMU made its first appearance in the playoffs. In 1984 Wattenbarger was named by Streets & Smith’s as a player to watch and he earned Offensive Player of the Game against Angelo State. The 1984 season saw ENMU earn it’s first-ever number-one national ranking. He also declined a professional tryout to remain at ENMU.
