Samuela Yavala set ENMU track records in the 440, 440 sprint relay, sprint medley relay, 880 relay and distance medley relay. He was an All American in 1973, running the third fastest sprint medley relay time in history. In 1972, Yavala competed in the Munich Olympics. As an athlete, Yavala won six overall gold medals, and two silver medals in the South Pacific games. He also represented his country in the Commonwealth games (1974, 1986).
